Palmaria Island
Villa is located on the Palmaria Island just across from the mainland
of Portovenere and is the perfect vacation home for people looking
for the total relaxation of small island life with the comodities
of the mainland very close. All you need in your suitcase is a
beach towel, a bathing suit, and a pair of thongs. From the villa
you can walk out of the house and into the water! Yes, the Meditteranean
at your front door! What better location for a great getaway from
it all.
Palmaria Island Villa dates back to the 1400’s. Originally a
nun’s convent (the nun’s treated themselves pretty good!), the
villa was later turned into “Saladero” where the village fishermen
would prepare anchioves for conservation putting them under salt.
Even now the villa is known as Saladero amongst native Portovenerini.
Legend has it that when the villa actually became residential
Lord Byron would come to Palmaria Island Villa for his afternoon
tea with some of the biggies in Italian politics at the time.
There was also a supposed hidden treasure in the villa but the
owner says that she and her sisters passed many summers searching
for the treasure with no luck!
The Villa is divided into 6 apartments, three of which are available
for weekly rentals. The first two apartments can be united for
groups of 6 to 8 people. The third apartment has a seperate entrance
and can also sleep up to four people. The villa has a beautiful
Italian garden for all tenants but also the apartments have their
own private outdoor area. The villa also has a private dock.
Casa Ombretta:
Casa Ombretta is the most spacious of the three apartments. Upon
entering there is a living room with a very well organized
kitchen corner and a dining table that seats up to six. From
the kitchen area there is also a balcony for dining outdoors
that has a great view. There is also a private little garden
area for sunbathing that is equipped with nice garden furniture.
There are two bedrooms. One has two single beds and the other
has one queen size bed. There is also one bathroom with a shower.
There are views from almost every room.
Casa Manuela:
Casa Manuela is accessible through a beautiful portico that is
almost an outdoor living room. There is a table that seats
up to ten and some wicker furniture creating a perfect seaside
feel. Upon entering is the kitchen which is fully equipped
with a dishwasher. There is a staircase that leads up to the
bedrooms. The bedrooms are small but comfortable. One bedroom
has two singles and the second has a double bed. This room
has a beautiful view. Here there is one bathroom with a shower.
From Casa Manuela there is a door which can be opened to combine
this apartment with Casa Ombretta for groups of up to 8.
Casa Luisa:
Casa Luisa is basically under Casa Manuela but it also has a
seperate entrance. This is the smaller of the three apartments.
There is a covered patio area for dinig outside which is also
the entrance. Upon entering is the kitchen area. Going up a
flight of open stairs is a kind of loft where there is a double
bed. Downstairs there is another small room with bunk beds
and a bathroom. This apartment also sleeps a total of 4 people.
Combining the three apartments up to 12 people can stay in
this property.
